ROYAL BRUNEI LAND FORCE PARTICIPATED IN THE 3rd ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NETWORK OF ASEAN CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND RADIOLOGICAL (CBR) DEFENCE EXPERTS


BERAKAS GARISSON, Wednesday, 01 December 2021 – The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) participated in the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Network of ASEAN Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Defence Experts hosted the ASEAN CBR Network, Republic of Singapore virtually. The one-day event was attended by CBR Defence and Technical experts from all 10 ASEAN Member States.

Representing the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces were Lieutenant Colonel Haji Rony Zai bin Haji Zaini, Head of Land Force Capability RBLF and Major Abd Rahim bin Hj Adris, Officer Commanding CBRE Defence Unit, Support Battalion RBLF. Also in attendance during the virtual meeting were representatives from Brunei Darussalam Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA).

The meeting was officiated by Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Deputy Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Defence, Singapore.In his keynote address, Mr. Teo Eng Dih emphasised the importance of enhancing ASEAN cooperation and collaboration amongst the regional CBR Defence Experts to combat CBR Terrorism in today's uncertain security environment. The theme for this year's meeting was "Deterring Terrorist Use of Toxin Weapons - Role of Chemical Investigations and International Cooperation".

The meeting continued with a series of plenary sessions in relation to this year's theme by various institutions and countries such as Australia, Singapore and Indonesia. The meeting concluded with a review by the ASEAN CBR Defence Experts on the Network's Activities for 2021 and the proposal Workplan for 2022.

The establishment of the Network of ASEAN CBR Defence Experts was adopted at the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) in October 2018. The aim of the platform is to strengthen regional counter-terrorism preparedness and cooperation against CBR threats.

BERAKAS GARISON, Rabu, 01 Disember 2021 – Tentera Darat Diraja Brunei (TDDB) telah menghadiri Mesyuarat 3rd Annual Meeting of the Network of ASEAN Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Defence Experts yang telah dipengerusikan oleh ASEAN CBR Network, Republik Singapura secara maya.

Hadir bagi mewakili Kementerian Pertahanan dan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei ialah Leftenan Kolonel Haji Rony Zai bin Haji Zaini, Ketua Perkembangan dan Keupayaan Tentera TDDB dan Mejar Abd Rahim bin Hj Adris, Pegawai Memerintah, Pegawai Memerintah, Unit Pertahanan Kimia, Biologi, Radiologi dan Letupan, Batalion Bantu TDDB. Turut hadir menyertai dalam mesyuarat tersebut ialah perwakilan daripada Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) Brunei Darussalam.

Mesyuarat telahpun dibuka rasmi oleh Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Dasar), Kementerian Pertahanan, Republik Singapura. Dalam ucapan beliau, Mr. Teo Eng Dih menekankan akan kepentingan kerjasama diantara pakar-pakar ASEAN dalam menangani ancaman penyalahgunaan bahan-bahan Kimia, Biologi, dan Radiologi oleh pihak pengganas di sekitar rantau ASEAN. Tema mesyuarat pada kali ini adalah "Deterring Terrorist Use of Toxin Weapons - Role of Chemical Investigations and International Cooperation".

Mesyuarat diteruskan dengan beberapa siri sesi plenari yang membincangkan perkara-perkara yang berhubungkait dengan tema pada tahun ini.  Pada sesi petang mesyuarat tersebut, mesyuarat telah membincangkan hasil dapatan aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah dilaksanakan di sepanjang tahun 2021 dan seterusnya merangka Rancangan Kerja atau Workplan bagi aktiviti-aktiviti yang akan dilaksanakan pada tahun 2022.

The Network of ASEAN CBR Defence Experts telah ditubuhkan pada bulan Oktober 2018 melalui hasil perbincangan Mesyuarat 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM).  Objektif utama platform ini adalah untuk mengukuhkan kesiapsediaan dan kerjasama sesama negara di rantau ASEAN dalam menangani ancaman Kimia, Biologi dan Radiologi.
