Colonel Azman bin Haji Bangkol joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 1993. After completing his recruit training, he was appointed as an Officer Cadet in November 1993 and underwent his officer cadet training at the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Upon commissioning in 1995, he served as a Platoon Commander, Second Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force.
Throughout his military career, Colonel Azman had the opportunity to hold various command and staff appointment. Such appointments include Regimental Signal Officer, Adjutant, Officer Commanding of First and Third Battalion from 2003 to 2008, SO2 Land Capability Development at the Directorate of Force Capability Development, Ministry of Defence from 2008 until 2010, Second in Command and Commanding Officer of Second Battalion. His most recent appointments include SO1 Administration, SO1 J5, Joint Force Headquarters, Military Assistant to Second Minister of Defence and Chief of Staff of Royal Brunei Land Force. He became the Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Land Force on 30 July 2020.
Colonel Azman has attended various military career courses locally and overseas throughout his service such as Methods of Instructions (MOI), Jungle Warfare Instructor, Basic Manpower Officer, Intermediate Staff, Unit Security Officers, Company Commanders Tactics, Battalion Tactics Course, Command and General Staff CL 53 and Executive Development Programme Course.
He was the 1st International Monitoring Team (IMT) team member from 2004 until 2005 and also had the honour led the 12th Brunei IMT team to monitor the ongoing peace process between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Mindanao, Southern Philippines as part of his overseas tour of duty.
In recognition of his service, Colonel Azman was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, PJK) in 2007 and recently The Most Honourable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei (Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia Darjah Ketiga, SMB) in 2013 by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Colonel Azman is married to Yusnita binti Hj Duraman @ Haji Masri and blessed with eight children.
