Colonel Dr Awg Mohd Hafizul bin Hj Mohd Awg Hassan was born on 21 December in 1969 in Kampong Gadong, Brunei Darussalam. He graduated from St Andrews University/Manchester University in 1997 with BSc in Med Sciences and MBBS. He began his career in the military when he was commissioned into the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 01 March 2002. He then underwent the Postgraduate Qualified Officer Course in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom in 2003.

Colonel Dr Awg Mohd Hafizul was appointed as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in September 2008 and become the first Bruneian to hold the position. Aside from being a CMO, he has also been appointed as the Acting Commandant of Combat Service Support Royal Brunei Land Force (CSS RBLF) in 2015 as his second post.

He has various academic qualifications, which includes Master of Science in Primary Health Care in 2007 from the Universiti of Brunei Darussalam and Master in Public Management in March 2010 from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore)/Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (US). He is also a member of the Royal College of General Practitioner 2008 and had attended the Executive Development Program (EDP) in 2008 in Brunei Darussalam.

Colonel Dr Awg Mohd Hafizul has served in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces through appointments and deployments such as the first Brunei medical team to be deployed for HADR in Aceh during the 2004 Tsunami where he was awarded Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK). He also spearheaded the Medical Component in conducting the ADMM-Plus HADR/MM Exercise, which took place in Brunei in June 2013.

Colonel Dr Awg Mohd Hafizul is married to Dr Huzaimah binti Wahab and they are blessed with three lovely boys, Harith, Haqeem and Hanan.
