BOLKIAH GARRISON, Saturday 28 October 2011 - The Royal Brunei Land Force football team emerged as the champion of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Football Tournament after edging Team Special Force Regiment (RPK) 2-1 in a tightly-contested final yesterday.
The guest-of-honour, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, presented the prizes to the winners.
All the goals came in the second half after both sides were deadlocked with no goals in the first half.
Drawing first blood was Royal Brunei Land Force’s Kpl Ede Ruse who opened accounts with a fine effort 19 minutes into the second half.
Ten minutes later, Kpl Ede Ruse added another goal to extend Royal Brunei Land Force lead to two goals. The celebration was shortlived when RPK came back strongly 10 minutes later with a goal from Kpl Radin.
Team Special Force Regiment put up a good fight and almost leveled the score in the final minutes if not for the impressive diving save by the Royal Brunei Land Force goalkeeper.
Third place went to Ministry of Defence while the best player in the final was Staff Sergeant Zuraimee of RPK.
