
Seoul, Republic of Korea, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 – Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ghazali bin Haji Hussin, Commanding Officer Engineer Regiment, Royal Brunei Land Force as Brunei Darussalam representative for the National Contact Point on Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) attended the 23rd ROK-UN Joint Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This high-level conference brought together international experts in the BWC, government officials, academics and international organisations to discuss the need to strengthen global biological security as well as approaches for the BWC to adapt to new and modern technologies, risks and its implications for society. The conference took place from 4th to 6th November 2024 with the theme “The Biological Weapons Convention at Fifty: Strengthening Global Biological Security in a Rapidly Evolving Technological Landscape”.
The conference commenced with welcoming remarks from Mr. Koo-rae Cho, Vice Minister for Strategy and Intelligence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. Among the objectives to be achieved from this conference is for member countries to enhance international cooperation and assistance by sharing best practices, strengthening relevant mechanisms, and identifying ways to enhance transparency as well as confidence between member countries through the BWC Confidence Building Measures.


PEGAWAI KANAN TDDB MENGHADIRI THE 23RD ROK-UN JOINT CONFERENCE ON DISARMAMENT AND NON-PROLIFERATION ISSUES
SEOUL, Rabu, 6 November 2024 – Leftenan Kolonel Mohammad Ghazali bin Haji Hussin, Pegawai Pemerintah Rejimen Jurutera Tentera Darat Diraja Brunei selaku wakil National Contact Point Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) bagi Negara Brunei Darussalam telah menghadiri The 23rd ROK-UN Joint Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues bertempat di Seoul, Republik Korea. Persidangan peringkat tinggi ini mengumpulkan para pakar antarabangsa dalam BWC, Pegawai-pegawai Kerajaan, ahli-ahli akademik dan organisasi antarabangsa untuk membincangkan keperluan bagi mengukuhkan keselamatan biologi global serta membincangkan pendekatan BWC untuk mengadaptasi dengan teknologi baru dan moden, risiko dan implikasinya kepada masyarakat. Persidangan tersebut berlangsung dari 4 hingga 6 November 2024 dengan tema “The Biological Weapons Convention at Fifty: Strengthening Global Biological Security in a Rapidly Evolving Technological Landscape“
Persidangan telah dimulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada Mr. Koo-rae Cho, Vice Minister for Strategy and Intelligence, Kementerian Hal Ehwal Luar Republik Korea dan Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, Timbalan Setiausaha Agung Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu dan Wakil Tertinggi bagi Hal Ehwal Pelucutan Senjata. Antara objektif yang ingin dicapai daripada persidangan ini adalah bagi negara-negara ahli untuk meningkatkan kerjasama dan bantuan antarabangsa dengan berkongsi amalan terbaik, mengukuhkan mekanisme yang berkaitan dan mengenal pasti cara untuk mempertingkatkan transparency dan keyakinan antara negara-negara ahli melalui BWC Confidence Building Measures.
