77 female and 52 officials and coaches under RBAF's Sports Council will be
participating in 22 out of 23 events being contested for the sports festival,
such as Badminton, Netball, Karate Do, Tennis, Rugby to name a few.
The ceremony
for the handing over of the flag for RBAF's Sports Council was held this
morning at the Royal Brunei Malay Reserve Regiment at Rimba Camp where it saw
the Commander of RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato
Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Md Yussof presenting the proud flag to the
Chief-de-Mission of the RBAF Sports Council, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ismaon
bin Haji Zainie.
In a speech by
the RBAF Commander, he is confident of winning more medals at this year's Pesta
Sukan Kebangsaan (PSK) since the participants had undergone a high level of
training.
"This
shows RBAF's commitment in upholding the national foundations of "Sports
for All" and "Sports Excellence" while engaging the participants
actively in sports and enhancing their agility," said the RBAF Commander
in his opening speech. Sport activities are very important in upgrading both
the mental and physical fitness of military personnel, he said.
By joining the
competition, athletes could gain a big advantage as they are able to maintain
and upgrade stamina and agility needed in carrying their duties and operations.
Moreover the RBAF Commander warned the athletes not to be over-confident in facing
the competition from the 13 contingents taking part in PSK-8 namely Brunei
Muara District, Belait District, Tutong District, Temburong District, Royal
Brunei Police Force, UBD among others.
The RBAF
contingent is by far the largest contingent in PSK this year.
