First Warrant Officer Selamat bin Haji Md Yassin was born on 26 June 1973. He joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 08 January 1992. Throughout his career, First Warrant Officer Selamat was appointed as a Rifleman from 1992 until 1994, and then he was posted to Third Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force as a Storeman, a position he held from 1995 to 2003. In 2003, he held the post of Company Quartermaster Sergeant until 2008, in 2008 to 2012 he was assigned as Company Sergeant Major and held a post as Drill Sergeant Major in the following years until 2016. In 2016, First Warrant Officer Selamat was appointed as Regiment Sergeant Major from Third Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force. He took over the duties as Acting Sergeant Major of the Royal Brunei Land Forces on 13 October 2018. On 01 March 2019, he was appointed to his current appointment as the Royal Brunei Land Force Sergeant Major.
During his service, First Warrant Officer Selamat attended various courses which includes Potential Course (1995), Jungle Trekking Course (1996), Small Arms Skills and Instructor Course (1997), Drill Instructor Course (1998), Combat Platoon Sergeant Course (2000), Range Management Course (2005), Company Quarter Master Sergeant (2006), Warrant Officer Leadership Course (2010), Royal Brunei Armed Force Service Fund (2012) and Assistant Security Unit Officer.
He has been awarded with Pingat Laila Tugas in 1993, Pingat Jubli Perak in 1994, Pingat Jubli Emas Royal Brunei Armed Force in 2011 and Pingat Jubli Emas Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in 2017
First Warrant Officer Selamat has a keen interest in sports especially football and volleyball. He is married to Maimunah binti Haji Awang and is blessed with a son.
